The City Council voted unanimously on October 7 to move forward with a new $110 million middle school on the current site. There’s still one more funding vote, which comes after construction bids are back in early 2027.
The city would borrow about $98 million. City officials say that maxes out Watertown’s borrowing capacity, so other projects, like the new Senior Center and a new fire station, will likely get pushed back.
For the 2027-28 school year, teachers and students move into modular classrooms on Moxley Field. The new building is targeted to be done before September 2029.
If you’re buying in Watertown, this matters. A bond this size affects the tax rate down the road. Don’t just look at this year’s bill. Build it into your property tax numbers for the next several years.
I kept it conversational and cut the stiff phrasing. One call you may want to make: “likely push back” on the Senior Center and fire station is the city’s read, not a done deal, so I kept it hedged.
